Q:What would you want someone just meeting you to be able to say about you?

A:I would love for them to say that I was someone worth knowing.  A person that added to life; one who didn’t just take what life had to offer without using it to benefit others as well as herself.  I would love for them to say she was a writer, an inspiration, one who gave her opinion but in her expressions thought of the views of others.

Q:Have you written any other publications?

A:Since the release of “A Different Kind of Love”, I’ve worked on several writings.  All of which will be published works in time.

Q: What inspired you to write about a touchy topic as “secrets?”

A:The story deals with the lineage of family.  It deals with how families have secretly separated themselves and the possibilities caused by the separation.  Death brings secrets to the surface and many times lineage is over looked.  The child that is a part of an outside affair is a secret, the adopted child, the child raised by another family member, are all a part of the secret.  What goes around comes around.  The secrets always resurface.

Q:As a self published author do you find it difficult to get your books noticed?

A:You definitely have to work hard.  Whether it is more difficult, I really don’t know.  Listening to others, seminars, and research has told me the author will always work hard to promote, advertise, and market their books.  Difficulty comes with learning who, what and where you seek promotions, signings, distribution, and marketing ideas.  It’s an ongoing process.

Q:What made you choose to self publish and do you ever see yourself doing traditional publishing in the future?

A: I believe I will continue the route of self publishing (one always looks for the big deal).  I like the control I have as a self published author.  Although I seek advice, criticism, and will always welcome it, I think as the author my product should speak as I speak and feel.  Sometimes that can be lost with the guidelines set by the traditional publishing houses.

Q:What are your upcoming literary projects?

A:I am looking forward to the literary events scheduled for the summer.  Book signings, chats with book clubs and new projects I Pen Designs will be delving into.  I will be publishing a murder mystery this fall entitled “Bruised Love”.  It’s currently in the final stages and I’m truly excited about its release.

Q:Gauging some of the reviews I have read about your book, is it safe to say that some people don’t appreciate your twists, turns and overall unexpected endings?

A: Reality for some hurts, just as true as it becomes no one wants to admit these things happen.  Most of us want to say that our family members would never seek love with another member of the family..  However, if the reader took the time to read the entire story they would find it quite interesting that the tale has been told generation, after generation.  My story is fiction, it has added drama, suspenseful twists, and entertaining love scenes just as a movie would.  Those that don’t appreciate it can close the book but I would hope they would read it in its entirety before judging the work.

Q:Who was your favorite character in “Family Secrets Lies & Alibis” and “A Different Kind of Love”? and why?

A:I found the main character D.Q. Mince and his lawyer Stanley Simpson to be my favorites.  There was a part of me that wanted the man to be determined to tell his side of his story.  There are so many stories that men hold within, and I think who they love and why is always one that is assumed more than expressed. As the story continues in “A Different Kind of Love” Stanley Simpson, D.Q.’s lawyer and confidant is determined to see ‘Rell through the aftermath of his father’s death.

Q:What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

A:Being a published author is a job.  When one wants to be the best CEO, or Executive they work more than others.  They study the field, take on business meetings, network, research, travel, promote, advertise, and market.  These are all components of being a published author.  Even if you are published through a traditional publishing house you must hire those who will handle these things for you and oversee those that do the work.  It is relaxing throughout the process, you get a feeling of accomplishment, but then the next project begins.  It’s a necessary evil to personal bliss.  Keep writing, stay on your grind.
